We have officially put the period at the end of the sentence that was September, which means it’s time for our inaugural Septemoir Book Club gathering here at Human Together. (Here’s a link back to the original post, in case you missed it, and are wondering “What in the world is Septemoir?”)
Our gathering is in two days (Thursday, October 3 at 8 pm EST) and will be super casual, kind of like a show-and-tell for readers (so…a read-and-tell, yes?). Whether you read an entire memoir in September, a part of one, or simply want to bring a memoir you read at some point in your life, all are welcome. Everyone who attends will get a turn to answer two questions:
What did you read? No spoilers, if we can avoid it. Just a generic: Here’s the title and what it’s about.
How did the story invite you to be more human with yourself or others? For example: Did you find yourself connecting with the author in an unexpected way? Did the author have experiences that mirrored your own? What did you discover about the author’s history that perhaps made you more compassionate? Were there parts of the book that were uncomfortable? (That last question may be a bit intense, but if you want to go there, I’m game!)
Everyone will have two to three minutes to share (depending on the group size, we might make adjustments on the fly but no one will be in the spotlight long). If you don’t want to share but simply want to come and listen, that’s fine too!
Either way, my hope is that we can add a few new memoirs to our TBR list and allow these real-life stories lead us to a more tender place as we recognize the complexity and commonality we each carry.

What’s Up Next
If you want to keep reading with us, we have two more HT Book Club picks for the remainder of 2024, including The Gift of Being Yourself by David G. Benner for October and Live Slowly by Jodi Grubbs for November (gathering dates below). Because December doesn’t need one more thing, we will be taking that month off.
Book Club is currently included with a paid subscription to Human Together, which is $5 monthly or $30 for the year. But if upgrading to paid isn’t feasible right now and you’d still like to join us, simply email me at sarah@sarahewestfall.com. We’ll make sure you have access, no questions asked.
I look forward to finishing out the year reading alongside you as we explore the communal life.
PS: I hope to see you Thursday at 8 pm EST!
Hi Sarah, is the memoir share on Thursday open to everyone or just paid subscribers?
