I recently (like this week) discovered the music of Jess Ray, and if my soul had a soundtrack, I’m certain this album would be on it. I’m so dummified I don’t have words to describe my first experience of listening through it. But wow. I’m not a music junkie, but I know what I like. I know what lasts. I know what I will go back to again and again. And this is it. Gosh, good music is a gift.
On a personal note…
Here we are just over a week into Liturgy of the Little Things, and I thought it might be good for us to get to know each other a bit. One of my favorite parts of this practice is crossing paths with new names and faces—not to mention seeing you all find each other here and on Instagram.
But the thought hit me today that here we are walking through the month together but many of us haven’t been introduced. And while it’s hard to know people fully in person let alone through a screen, I like to try.
I’ll start.
👋🏽 Hey. Hello. I’m Sarah, and I live in NE Indiana with Ben (my steady-eddy husband of 19 years) and our four boys (ages 14, 11, 7, 6).
✏️ My current professional pursuits are writing (I have my first book coming out with IVP in June) and a bit o’ speaking/teaching—all of which explore the intersection of faith, belonging, and the complexities of being a person. Daily I’m asking myself and God the question, “HOW can we be more human together?”
🥔 Someone recently asked me my favorite food, and I answered Mexican. But I think if I would have thought about it a little longer, I would have said potatoes. Mashed. Cheesy. Fried. Soup. I love it. All of it.
🍁 I’m unapologetic about my love of autumn.
👥 Large groups of people I don’t know well ten to make me insanely sweaty. I would much rather go deep with people than wide, and those settings generally don’t invite intimacy. BUT I know I cannot avoid these situations and am doing my best not to cave in on myself when I enter the room.
🧶 I might have been born a grandmother. Over on a Sarah Bessey post, where many of us were reporting on our old-soul ways, I shared how I prefer my recipes on index cards, I want to read books with actual pages, and never hardly ever get on YouTube or TikTok. I forgot to mention how I have the beginnings of arthritis and have special cream for my joints. So there’s that.
💙 I have a lot of questions (and sometimes that’s hard for me to admit), but I also have a God who keeps me grounded, who continually finds ways to remind me that he is beside me in the mist.
OKAY, lovely faces new and old. It’s your turn. Tell us a little something about yourself. You can be today’s dose of goodness.
PS: If you’re new to Liturgy of the Little Things, feel free to check out the welcome post or look back over the previous daily posts in the Little Things section. And feel free to ask questions. We like questions here.
Jess Ray’s music is so beautiful. She’s also in a new group called Paper Horses and their new music is breathtaking.
Yes!! I haven't listened to her in a while, but I love her music. Thanks for the reminder. I'm definitely going to dive back in.
